The Sum of Us by Heather McGhee is one of today’s most insightful and influential thinkers offers a powerful exploration of inequality and the lesson that generations of Americans have failed to learn: Racism has a cost for everyone and not just for people of color. One of our most favorite things about this book is that it not only challenges the assumptions of both white antiracism activists but also challenges the mainstream notions of progressives who just want to talk about class. Because the problem of race is just as if not more complex and multi-layered than the problem of class.
All in all, we highly recommend this book for you to understand the complex dynamics of racism and how it affects everyone. In these trying times, it is our own responsibility to educate ourselves.
