Before we dive into the review, let us tell you a little bit about the author, Kaira Rouda is a USA TODAY and international bestselling, multiple award-winning author of contemporary fiction that explores what goes on beneath the surface of seemingly perfect lives. The Next Wife by Kaira Rouda is a fairly recent book. Published amid a pandemic, the book revolves around the character of Kate Nelson. Our experience of going through this contemporary read has been somewhat similar to what the other readers have experienced. 2 chapters into the book and we were still not sure about the main character. We mean, we understand the quirkiness but the main character was just far too obnoxious, self-absorbed and catty for our taste. We did not want to put up with her for however many more pages. The main character does not always have to be interesting or likable by all the readers, but surely here is a way to create a protagonist who is not likable but also inspires you to keep reading.
In short, even after finishing the entire book, we had one thought that hovered above our head. WHO ALLOWED THIS BOOK TO BE PUBLISHED IN 2021? Apart from the quirky stereotype character in the form of the main character, the book is also not very well written. Anyways, that’s all from our side. What do you think about the book?
